about

Recorded during our Arts Council-funded 'Critical Time' UK tour in May 2021, 'social butterfly EP' features three extended pieces by Chris Dowding and Rob Milne.

The first, 'the social butterfly (for Noam Chomsky', was composed after watching the beautiful film about Chomsky by Michel Gondry - an illustrated animation in which Chomsky refers to his wife as a social butterfly. The piece features holding hands' signature lush brass textures and vibraphone patterns.

This leads onto Rob Milne's delicate piece, 'For Juhani Aaltonen', and finally 'the world is broken'. The three pieces features solos from various members of the band and is released on cassette and download via Luton-based saxophonist Paul Jolly's 33Jazz label. The cassette is packaged with artwork by Amy Cutler and design by Morris Masuda.
